What does Oklahoma require to serve alcohol?

An ABLE employee licence. Under 37A O.S. section 2-121 anyone who sells, serves, mixes or handles alcoholic beverages at a licensed establishment needs one. The fee is 30 dollars plus a 3.50 convenience charge, and renewal costs the same. You apply through the ABLE Commission's online portal.

When is the training certificate actually due?

Within 14 days from the time the licence is issued — not from your first shift and not from the day you applied. You submit no documents at application; the training certificate is the follow-up, and the short window is what catches people out. ABLE is explicit that only one training course needs to be completed and you may choose any approved course you want.

What are the age rules?

Sixteen in grocery and convenience stores, eighteen in all other establishments, and twenty-one to serve spirits. There is one more rule people routinely miss: under section 6-102, anyone under 21 may not serve in a designated bar or lounge area at all, whatever the venue type.

Is this course ABLE-approved?

Yes. Certification Experts appears on the ABLE Commission's approved online training list as the Certification Experts Oklahoma Alcohol Awareness Certification, so this course satisfies the training requirement behind your employee licence. It also covers the operational rules Oklahoma enforces hardest — the two-drinks-at-a-time limit, the prohibition on permitting anyone to be intoxicated on the premises, and the fact that serving on an expired ABLE licence is a separate violation of its own.
