Who needs alcohol awareness training in Washington DC?
Anyone applying for an ABC Manager licence. The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration requires applicants to complete an ABC Board-approved alcohol awareness training programme and to submit the certificate with the licence application.
How fresh does the certificate have to be?
This is the detail that trips applicants up. Your certificate of completion must be dated within six months of the date you submit the application. An older certificate — even a valid one — will not be accepted, so time the course to the application rather than the other way round.
What if I have not finished the training yet?
ABCA can issue a temporary licence valid for 30 days while you complete the course, and a 90-day temporary licence where the delay is a pending police clearance report. Be careful with the 30-day version: if the certificate is not provided within 30 days of the temporary licence being issued, the licence is cancelled and the money paid is forfeited.
Is Certification Experts approved in DC?
Yes. The Certification Experts Alcohol Training and Education Certification Program appears on ABCA's list of ABC Board-approved alcohol awareness training providers, so this course produces the certificate your ABC Manager application needs. The alcohol awareness certification itself is valid for two years.
