Does Kentucky require alcohol server training statewide?

No. There is no statewide mandate. What Kentucky ABC provides instead is STAR — Server Training in Alcohol Regulations — a course the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control developed and offers through its own portal.

Where is training actually required?

At local level. Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government requires approved server training for anyone who sells or serves alcoholic beverages, and other Kentucky communities including Bowling Green, Owensboro and Elizabethtown have adopted their own training requirements. Which programme satisfies the rule depends on which city you are in — some name a local approved course, others accept STAR.

So what do I need for my job?

Ask the city, not the state. A bartender in rural Kentucky may face no requirement at all; the same person moving to a Lexington restaurant walks into a local mandate on day one. The state's silence is not the answer for most Kentucky hospitality jobs, because most Kentucky hospitality jobs are in the cities that regulate.
