Delaware's TABSP card and the 30-day rule

Does Delaware require server training?

Yes. Under Title 4, Chapter 12 of the Delaware Code, anyone who serves, sells or handles alcohol — and their supervisors — must complete approved server training. The programme is TABSP, the Trained Alcoholic Beverage Server Program, administered by the Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement.

What is the deadline and how long is the card valid?

The server training card must be obtained within 30 days of your date of hire, and the certification is valid for four years.

Who gets penalised if a server is untrained?

The owner. If employees do not hold server training cards, or let certification expire and keep serving, it is the establishment owner who receives the violation. That is why a Delaware manager will chase your card harder than you do — the exposure is theirs.

Is this course TABSP?

No. TABSP training has to come from a provider DATE has approved, and Certification Experts is not on that list. Take this course to arrive at your TABSP class already fluent in the practical parts — reading a licence quickly, spotting an altered or borrowed ID, calling impairment from behaviour, refusing a sale cleanly — and take the approved programme for the card itself.
