Delaware delivery: the server rule and the doorstep rule

Does Delaware require training to deliver alcohol?

Delaware's server training scheme is the starting point. Under Title 4 of the Delaware Code anyone who serves, sells or handles alcohol — and their supervisors — must complete approved training, delivered through TABSP, the Trained Alcoholic Beverage Server Program run by the Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement. Ask your employer whether your delivery role is inside that scheme.

What is the deadline?

Thirty days from your date of hire for the server training card, which is valid for four years once issued. If a driver has no card, or lets one expire and keeps working, the violation falls on the establishment owner — which is why a Delaware employer will chase your paperwork harder than you do.

What does the doorstep add?

Everything the bar does not have. There is no manager to hand a difficult customer to and no second set of eyes on the ID. A delivery driver has to verify age, confirm the ID is genuine and matches, judge whether the person receiving is already impaired, and be willing to take the order back — alone, at the door, with the clock running on the next drop.

Is this course the Delaware TABSP credential?

No. TABSP training comes from a provider DATE has approved, and Certification Experts is not on that list. Use this course to build the delivery-specific competence — door-side age verification, altered and borrowed ID tells, refusing a handover, and documenting what happened — and take the approved programme for the Delaware card itself.
