BASSET is the law in Illinois — here is the shape of it

Is server training mandatory in Illinois?

Yes. Since 1 July 2018 all on-premise alcohol servers — and anyone whose job includes checking identification for alcohol service — must complete BASSET, the Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training programme.

How long is a BASSET card good for?

Three years, and less if your local ordinance says so. Illinois lets municipalities tighten the state rule, so a Chicago or suburban ordinance can shorten the renewal cycle or add requirements on top; the state minimum is the floor, not the ceiling.

Who is allowed to deliver BASSET?

Only a provider licensed by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission. The Commission licenses trainers annually, keeps a public trainer directory, and requires providers to file rosters after every course — which is how your card ends up verifiable in the ILCC portal.

Does this course count as BASSET?

No. Certification Experts is not an ILCC-licensed BASSET provider, so this is awareness training rather than the state-mandated certificate. If you are serving on-premises in Illinois you need a licensed BASSET provider; use this course to build the carding, altered-ID, impairment and refusal skills that BASSET tests you on, and to keep them current between renewals.
