Nevada's alcohol education card, county by county
Do I need an alcohol awareness card in Nevada?
If you work in Clark or Washoe county, yes. NRS 369.630 applies in counties with a population of 100,000 or more, and it requires owners and operators of liquor establishments to make sure anyone who sells or serves alcohol — or works security — completes a state-certified alcohol awareness programme and holds a valid alcohol education card.
How quickly, and how long does the card last?
Within 30 days of being hired, and the card expires four years after its issue date. The 30-day clock runs from hire, not from your first shift behind the bar, so a slow start in a training role does not buy you extra time.
Security staff too?
Yes, and this catches people out. In Nevada the door is inside the rule: a security guard at a licensed establishment is named alongside sellers and servers, so a bouncer in Las Vegas or Reno carries the same card obligation as the bartender pouring behind them.
Can this course get me the card?
No. Nevada certifies the programmes that may issue the alcohol education card, and Certification Experts is not one of them — you will need a Nevada-approved provider. What this course does is put the underlying competence in place first: reading an ID under club lighting, catching the borrowed or altered licence, judging impairment from behaviour on a busy floor, and refusing service without turning it into a door incident.
