The OLCC service permit, and the grace period that disappeared

Do I need a permit to serve alcohol in Oregon?

Yes. Oregon requires an OLCC Alcohol Service Permit, and completing an approved alcohol server education course and passing the examination is a condition of both issuing and renewing it. You must be at least 18.

What changed in 2025?

The head start went away. Applicants used to be able to apply, pay the fee and serve alcohol for 45 days while they finished the course and test. As of 31 March 2025 that option no longer exists. You still have 45 days after submitting your application to take the class and pass the test in CAMP, but you cannot work the floor on the strength of the application alone.

How long does the permit last?

Five years from the effective date, and you can reapply up to six months before it expires. Do not leave it to the last week — reapplying early is free of drama, reapplying late is not.

Is this course the OLCC-approved class?

No. Oregon certifies which providers may deliver Alcohol Server Education, and Certification Experts is not among them. Take the OLCC-approved course for the permit; take this one to walk into that exam already comfortable with reading IDs at speed, spotting altered and borrowed licences, judging impairment from behaviour, and refusing service without escalation.
